CHITTAGONG, July 15 (Court Reporter, CTG Mail) โ A Chattogram court has shown former MP ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury arrested in the case filed over the killing of madrasa student Nizam Uddin during an anti-discrimination protest in the cityโs Laldighi area on August 5 last year.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alaudin Mahmud passed the order on Tuesday following a virtual hearing, based on a petition submitted by Investigation Officer Khalid Mahmud of Kotwali Police Station.
According to the case statement, Nizam Uddin (21) was shot during the protest and later died from his injuries. His father, Shahab Uddin, filed a case naming 35 individuals, including former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, former Chattogram City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, and former MP Fazle Karim. The case also accuses 150 unidentified individuals.
Fazle Karim was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on September 12, 2023, while allegedly trying to cross into India through Brahmanbariaโs Akhaura border. He was transferred by helicopter to Chattogram Central Jail on September 19.
