Residents in various parts of Chattogram city and district reported feeling tremors on Thursday night as a mild earthquake shook the region.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the quake struck at 8:26 PM local time on July 31. It measured 4.9 on the Richter scale.
Shortly after the tremors, users began posting about their experiences on social media. Despite widespread reports of shaking, there have been no immediate accounts of injuries or property damage.
Sanjay Kumar Biswas, wireless supervisor at the Meteorological Office, confirmed that the epicenter of the earthquake was located in Myanmar. The Dhaka-based Earthquake Observation and Research Centre recorded the epicenter to be approximately 409 kilometers from the capital.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, though no emergency alerts have been issued as of now.
