Chattogram City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has expressed optimism that the ongoing cleaning of the Agrabad box culvert, being implemented by the Bangladesh Navy under the initiative of the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), will be completed within the next two months.
The mayor made the remarks while visiting the culvert cleaning operations in the cityโs Chawkbazar area on Thursday afternoon. The initiative is part of broader efforts to mitigate waterlogging in the city. He also inspected the flow conditions of Nasir Khal and adjoining canals within the Agrabad Fire Service compound.
During the visit, local residents complained to the mayor about several construction firmsโsuch as Max Infrastructureโallegedly contributing to waterlogging by dumping soil and leaving construction materials uncovered in areas including Tiger Pass and Dewanhat.
Upon inspecting the sites, the mayor found merit in the complaints and issued warnings to the responsible firms. He cautioned that if any construction activities were found to be environmentally harmful in the future, the CCC would take legal action through its executive magistrates.
Mayor Shahadat emphasized the importance of responsible construction practices and reaffirmed the cityโs commitment to tackling urban flooding through coordinated efforts.
