Chattogram Diabetic Association President Prof Jahangir Chowdhury has said that the Chattogram Diabetic Hospital belongs to patients, not to any individual or vested quarter, and vowed not to allow conspiracies to destroy the institution.

“The hospital is not the property of any person or group—it is a lifeline for thousands of patients. We will not let it collapse due to anyone’s conspiracy,” he said while reading out a written statement at a press conference at Jamal Khan Seniors’ Club in the city around 12 noon today.

Lifetime members of the association, freedom fighters, senior journalists, and leaders of different forums were present.

Prof Jahangir alleged that while the valid committee for the 2024–2028 tenure is currently in office, a vested group misled the administration with false information and announced an “illegal ad-hoc committee.”

“This ad-hoc committee has no legal authority to convene a general meeting, yet they have called one on August 20. We declare the meeting illegal and urge everyone to boycott it,” he said.

Addressing corruption allegations against him, Prof Jahangir said, “The accusations of embezzling hospital funds are completely false and defamatory. I have never taken money from the institution—rather, I have spent for its development and always prioritized patient welfare.”

He accused certain salaried staff and a “corrupt woman” of running malicious propaganda for personal gain.

The press conference placed three demands before the government:

1. Immediate cancellation of the illegal ad-hoc committee.

2. Restoration of authority to the valid, duly elected committee.

3. Identification and legal action against conspirators working against the hospital.

Prof Jahangir called upon journalists to “uncover the truth through their pens and platforms,” saying that protecting Chattogram Diabetic Hospital means safeguarding the lives of thousands of patients.

Vice-presidents Shahazada Enayet Ullah Md Ali Khan, Engineer Md Jabed Absar Chowdhury, and Dr Md Sanaullah; Joint Secretary Dr Parvez Iqbal Sharif; members Shahidul Alam Shahidullah, Mohammad Ali Chowdhury, Advocate Kaniz Kawsar Lima; lifetime member, freedom fighter and senior journalist Moinuddin Kaderi Shawkat, among others, were also present.

Vice-president Shahazada Enayet Ullah said, “Journalists are the mirror of society. By publishing the truth, you can pave the way to resolving this crisis.”

Dr Sanaullah added, “The hospital is not just an institution, it is a refuge for thousands of patients. We will not allow it to be destroyed by propaganda or conspiracy.”

Engineer Jabed Absar Chowdhury emphasized, “We must work together to keep the hospital patient-friendly and service-oriented as it was before.”
