The Bangladesh Welfare Society held its biannual meeting on Saturday night, 23 August, at Tasfia Garden in CRB, Chattogram. The meeting was presided over by Mohammad Shah Alam, director of the Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber and noted social worker.
Engr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, chairman of the Alhaj Shamsul Haque Foundation, attended as the chief guest, while Advocate Ershadur Rahman Ritu, additional public prosecutor of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-06, Chattogram, served as the keynote speaker. The conference was inaugurated by the organisationโs former general secretary, noted organiser and columnist Nazim Uddin Chowdhury Annel.
The event was conducted by GM Saidur Rahman Mintoo. Among others who addressed the meeting were journalist Nur Mohammad Rana; eminent lawyers Advocate Parvez Talukder and Advocate Shafiul Alam Khokon; Hafiz Qari Amanullah Daulat; engineer Swapan Barua; human rights activist Brother Bahar; Hafiz Md Jubayer; Maya Phool founder Bashir Ahmed; Blood Donor Organisationโs Gias Uddin; Sunrise Organisation president Md Afzal Hossain; engineer Kamrul Islam; Principal Ariful Islam; Professor Mahmud Sajjad Hossain; engineer Jasim Uddin; Canada expatriate journalist Bablu; Patiya Platform president Nafis Karim Chowdhury; MD Milon; and Banglar Matir founder ABM Oliullah.
Speaking as chief guest, Engr. Nasir Uddin said, โA 27-year-old organisation is no small achievement. The contribution of General Secretary Nazim Uddin Chowdhury Annel will remain unforgettable. There is no alternative to humanitarian work for mental peace.โ
Keynote speaker Advocate Ershadur Rahman Ritu remarked, โMy association with Bangladesh Welfare Society spans over 20 years. It is not just an organisation but an institution. The society has played an important role in creating employment opportunities for countless people at home and abroad.โ
Presiding over the meeting, Mohammad Shah Alam said, โWe must avoid envy, hostility and division, and work together for the countryโs welfare.โ
The biannual gathering concluded with a renewed pledge to expand the societyโs humanitarian and welfare initiatives.
