CHITTAGONG,  31 August (CTG MAIL )

A 12-day programme marking Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad, is under way at the historic Mohammedia Khanqah Sharif in Chattogram.

Every evening, devotees gather at the spiritual centre for recitations of Darood, Milad sessions, sermons and prayers. Organisers say the event has become an annual tradition, drawing large crowds from across the city.

The observance is led by Ashiq-e-Rasul Muhammad Kamrul, the chief khadem (custodian) of the Khanqah. Presiding over the fifth day’s discussion, Kamrul said the Prophet’s life remains “a guiding light for humanity” and stressed that peace and justice in society can only be achieved by following his example.

The chief guest, Syed Maruf bin Kader Maizbhandari, a descendant of the Prophet and Naib-e-Sajjadanashin of the Gausul Azam shrine, spoke about the Prophet’s contributions to social reform and human welfare.

Other speakers included Maulana Md Manzur Alam, khatib of Sitakunda Model Mosque, and Abu Ahmad Azhari, khatib of Kalpalok Model Mosque. The session was moderated by Advocate Mir Mohammad Ferdous Alam Selim.

Those in attendance included Mufti Saleh Sufian Maizbhandari, freedom fighter Mohammad Rustam Ali, Maulana Monsurul Haque, Md Mosaddeq Morshed and Saiful Islam Sohas, alongside a large number of local residents.

Organiser Kamrul said the commemoration is not just a celebration but also “a pledge for spiritual purification,” aimed at inspiring younger generations with the Prophet’s teachings.

The programme will conclude with a special final prayer and the distribution of tabarruk (blessed food).
