The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled five of its leaders in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram, including Nurul Amin, widely known as “Chairman”, over allegations of breaching party discipline, extortion, land grabbing, and violence.
The other expelled leaders are Gazi Nizam Uddin, Didarul alam Miyaji, Sirajul Islam, and Kamal Uddin.
According to a letter signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the accused have been stripped of their primary membership and all party responsibilities. The action was reportedly taken under the directive of BNPโs acting chairperson, Tarique Rahman.
Speaking to reporters, BNPโs Chattogram divisional organising secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim said, โThis decision was made at the highest level of the party to maintain organisational discipline.โ
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury added, โWhenever credible evidence emerges against anyone misusing the partyโs name, immediate action is taken.โ
Meanwhile, residents in Mirsharai have voiced their support for the expulsion and are calling on Tarique Rahman to take legal action against the expelled individuals. Locals allege that the group had long been involved in various forms of misconduct.
Party insiders have indicated that, if necessary, the accused may be handed over to law enforcement authorities for further action.
